Psalm 23:1-6.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
Who is the God you believe in? For David, God was his Shepherd. Just as sheep cannot survive without a shepherd, David confessed that he could do nothing apart from Him.
David’s constant awareness of God’s presence brought about the finest moments even in the darkest hours of his life. It didn’t matter whether he was lying in green pastures beside quiet waters or walking through the valley of the shadow of death—being with God was all he needed and all he desired.
He had full assurance that nothing in the world could harm him. David discovered his own way of enjoying the presence of God—in the morning (Psalm 5:3), at noontime (Psalm 23:1–6), and in the evening (Psalm 17:3)—all day long, 24/7. When alone, he gained spiritual strength through meditation on the Word. He completely trusted God and prepared for the future in His presence.
Prayer can move the throne of God, which transcends time and space. And yet, we live in an age when many of God’s children do not realize the power of prayer or how to enjoy it. Meanwhile, many religious organizations have effectively promoted their own spiritual practices—such as transcendental meditation—as a way to access supernatural power.
Does this mean our prayers are weaker than theirs? Does it mean we, as children of God, lack the power to overcome the world?
Absolutely not.
The Word of God is alive and powerful—it can change anything (Hebrews 4:12). That’s why it is vital to quietly reflect on and meditate upon God’s Word daily. This is the mystery of 24-hour prayer: experiencing God’s presence throughout every moment of your day.
As we meditate on the Word, God heals the scars deeply rooted in our hearts. We begin to experience the greatest joy and happiness. He also strengthens us to pray, and in doing so, we begin to hear His heavenly mandate, understand His calling, and embrace the lifelong mission He has prepared for us.
When you enjoy 24-hour prayer, you will begin to recognize God’s perfect timing in all things. Like David—who enjoyed God’s presence continually—you will be able to acknowledge God’s sovereignty and confess your faith even in your darkest hours.
This is the power and blessing that await you in 24-hour prayer. It’s a blessing you don’t want to miss. Experience eternal blessings here and now through prayer. As David did, walk with the Lord throughout your day!
Prayer. Father, I thank You for the incredible privilege of being with You 24/7. Like David, I desire to experience Your presence all throughout the day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
