Who Am I?

1 Corinthians 2:14. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

In this day and age, it is easy to lose ourselves as we listen to the countless voices of the world—voices that compete for our attention, shape our values, and influence our priorities. Yet Scripture reminds us that there is a hidden spiritual battle behind these voices.

“The god of this age,” the devil, has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see “the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:4). This has always been and continues to be Satan’s ultimate goal: the alienation of humanity from God. All he does is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

The devil succeeded with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden by deceiving them into believing the greatest lie ever spoken: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). That lie became the foundation of humanity’s rebellion, the root of sin, and the origin of death.

And the message of “the father of lies” has not changed at all (John 8:44). In every generation, Satan uses the same deception but disguises it in new forms. Today, movements like the so-called “New Age” philosophy, modern spirituality, and popular culture still proclaim the same empty promise—that we can define our own truth, live apart from God, and be our own masters. It is not a new message at all; it is the oldest lie in human history.

From the moment Adam and Eve fell into the hands of Satan, all humanity has been born spiritually dead—separated from God and without His Spirit (Ephesians 2:1). This is why Scripture declares, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Spiritually blind and disconnected from God, people live according to their natural instincts, unable to comprehend anything spiritual. They chase after what is temporary, ignoring what is eternal. Everyone does as they see fit (Judges 21:25). As a result, humanity has become enslaved to sin: “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin” (Romans 6:6).

Without the Spirit of God, one cannot resist temptation. Their thoughts, desires, and choices are driven by what pleases the flesh, not what pleases God. That is why Paul writes, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” (Galatians 5:16–17).

Without knowing the life that comes from the Spirit, people remain powerless against “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). Their worldview and priorities are shaped entirely by self-centered motives, unable to rise above their fallen nature.

Scripture paints a clear picture of the unbeliever’s condition: “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Their lives are not neutral—they are under spiritual control: “You used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient” (Ephesians 2:2).

As a result, they cannot escape from idolatry, superstitions, false religions, and self-made philosophies. These become chains that lead them into inevitable disasters and calamities. God’s wrath is not simply because of what they do, but because of who they belong to. Paul writes, “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3). Since Adam, humanity has been trapped under three great curses: the power of sin, the grip of Satan, and the destiny of hell.

Jesus Himself revealed this spiritual reality: “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires” (John 8:44). The heart of man, Scripture declares, is “deceitful above all things and beyond cure” (Jeremiah 17:9). Every inclination of the human heart is evil from birth (Genesis 6:5). People do not hesitate to commit acts that are corrupt, shameful, and destructive (Romans 1:28–32).

Jesus described what naturally flows out of the human heart: “Sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly” (Mark 7:20–22). He concluded, “All these evils come from inside and defile a person” (Mark 7:23). In other words, sin makes the heart spiritually desolate and creates an open doorway for Satan to take control and his strongholds. By removing the platform where the Holy Spirit can work, the devil keeps people bound, blinded, and broken.

Worst of all, those who choose to be “friends of the world” make themselves “enemies of God” (James 4:4). They maintain a fractured, hostile relationship with their Creator. Jesus made this reality clear: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them” (John 3:36).

If Today’s Word reflects the state of your life, there is only one way to be restored—you must make peace with God. Scripture declares: “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

That peace was made possible because Jesus Christ finished the work of salvation on the cross. As the True Priest, He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice, taking away the sins of the world and granting eternal life to all who believe in Him (John 5:24).

Through His resurrection, Jesus completed the work of the True King by defeating the power of the devil, who held the power of death. When you believe in Him as your True King, you receive authority over all the forces of darkness: “I have given you authority… to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:19).

Finally, as the True Prophet, Jesus opened a new and living way to God. Through Him, we are restored to our true identity as children of God: “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). He rescues us from the dominion of darkness and brings us into His eternal kingdom (Colossians 1:13).

The voices of this world will continue, but only one voice leads to life—the voice of the One who died and rose again for you. If you hear Him today, do not harden your heart. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will cross from death to life, from darkness to light, and from bondage to freedom.

By prayer, receive Jesus as the Christ into your heart:

Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

You are the true Prophet, the only way to God.
You are the true Priest, who has set me free from the curse of sin.
You are the true King, who has destroyed the power of the devil.

I believe You died on the cross to take away all my sins, rose again from the dead, and now work through the Holy Spirit in my life.
I now invite You to reign on the throne of my heart as my Lord, Savior, and Christ.

Thank You for making me Your child.
Thank You for forgiving all my sins.
Thank You for leading me to victory over the enemy.
Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers.
Thank You for guiding my life through the Holy Spirit.

Fill me with the Holy Spirit, that I may live as a witness for Christ.
Help me experience the power of the gospel and enjoy the blessings of Your presence every day of my life.

In Your precious and mighty name, I pray. Amen.
