Call to Worship

Hymn
I Will Worship You
Seok Jin Oh · Ha Young Yoo

In the Spirit Lord, I will worship You.
And in truth alone I will worship You.
With the gospel of life, I will worship You.
For You are worthy of all glory, Lord.

Father, Son, and Spirit, I will worship You.
With the covenant, I will worship You.
With the blessing of the throne, I will worship You.
Lord, let your power be revealed through my life.

Confession of Faith
The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy universal Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body
And life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn
Come, Christians, Join to Sing
Christian H. Bateman

Come, Christians, Join to Sing
Alleluia, Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King,
Alleluia, Amen!
Let all with heart and voice
Before his throne rejoice;
Praise is his gracious choice;
Alleluia, Amen!

Come, lift your hearts on high;
Alleluia, Amen!
Let praises fill the sky;
Alleluia, Amen!
He is our Guide and Friend;
To us he’ll condescend;
His love shall never end;
Alleluia, Amen!

Praise yet the Lord again;
Alleluia, Amen!
Life shall not end the strain;
Alleluia, Amen!
On Heaven’s blissful shore
His goodness we’ll adore,
Singing forevermore,
Alleluia, Amen!

Psalm 136

Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
People: Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.

Leader: Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
People: to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.

Leader: who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
People: who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.

Leader: who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
People: the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.

Leader: the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.
People: to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.

Leader: and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
People: with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.

Hymn
Down at the Cross
E. A. Hoffman

Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to his name!

Glory to his name,
Glory to his name;
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to his name!

I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within;
There at the cross where he took me in;
Glory to his name!  Refrain

Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
Glory to his name!  Refrain

Come to this fountain so rich and sweet,
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior’s feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to his name!  Refrain

Scripture Reading
Acts 8:4-8
Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.

Special Music
Yet Not I, but Through Christ in Me
Jonny Robinson, Rich Thompson, and Michael Farren · Worship Team

What gift of grace is Jesus, my Redeemer
There is no more for Heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing, “All is mine”
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior, He will stay
I labor on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley, He will lead
Oh, the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future’s sure, the price, it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus, now and ever is my plea
Oh, the chains are released, I can sing, “I am free”
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath, I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day, I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
“Yet not I, but through Christ in me”

Message
The Gospel That Blocks Curses and Disasters
Pastor Ryu Kwang Su
Full Transcript

▣ Introduction
Because they do not know what they have received, they ask what they should do.
1. Be assured – Wherever you go, curses and disasters collapse and are bound in the name of Jesus Christ.
1) Hebrews 11 – The characteristics of those who overcame darkness, curses, and disasters: Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
(1) Faith grows and takes root.
(2) The result of unbelief rooted in those who do not know God is the continual increase of murders and suicides.
2) Faith that knows the Gospel correctly
(1) Believe in Jesus Christ, the name that removes curses and disasters.
(2) “Arise, shine, for the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
3) If you do not believe this fact
(1) You remain at the same level as unbelievers.
(2) You cannot evangelize and end up serving unbelievers and Satan.
(3) There is no way to block curses and disasters.

2. The reason curses and disasters come
1) The 12 problems
(1) The Garden of Eden (leaving God and trying to become like God), the Nephilim (the strength that comes from idol worship), the Tower of Babel incident (success without God).
(2) Struggling—idol worship, fortune-telling.
(3) Because they became children of Satan, spiritual problems began; their background is hell and Satan, and greater problems come to the next generation.
2) A church that does not know Only the Gospel cannot overcome curses and disasters.
(1) Acts 11:1–18 – They emphasized Jewish tradition over the Gospel and criticized Peter for eating at a Gentile’s house.
(2) Galatians 2:10–20 – They emphasized Jewish law over the Gospel.
(3) Matthew 12:26–30 – Jesus said, “Satan is building a house in your household.”
▷ A church that does not know Only the Gospel is no different from idol worship. It cannot block disasters.

3. The background of the passage
1) The reason curses and disasters came upon Samaria
(1) During Solomon’s reign, idols spread and the nation became divided.
(2) The men of Israel were taken captive by Assyria, and the women of Israel married Gentiles.
(3) Because they did not understand the Gospel, Judah regarded Samaria as a cursed land.
2) The time when Jesus was crucified and believers were legally ostracized.
3) One man, Philip, destroyed the darkness, curses, and disasters in Samaria. Believe this.
▷ Only the Gospel can solve curses. Only the light can overcome darkness.

▣ Main – How were curses and disasters blocked?
1. When hardships come, discover God’s great blessing.
(1) The believers scattered due to Stephen’s death and great persecution (verses 1–3).
(2) The blessing Philip discovered – He went to Samaria to proclaim the Gospel (verses 4–5).
(3) The Gospel is life-giving.

2. One heart, whole heart, continuation – Miracles that change the world
(1) Those who were scattered preached the Gospel and testified to Christ in Samaria (verses 4–5).
(2) They listened to Philip’s message with one heart (verse 6).
(3) Miracles that changed the field took place (verse 7).

3. There was great joy in that city (verse 8)
When the light shone, darkness collapsed. When they prayed in the name of Christ, demons fled.
(1) Nobody → Everybody – No one could solve it, but it changed to everybody.
(2) Nothing → Everything – Nothing could be done, but it changed to everything.
(3) No way → Everywhere – There was no way in Samaria’s curse, but it changed to everywhere.
▷ During worship, pastors must convey what God desires, and you must find the answer. Once you find the answer, pray with one heart. Then you will see God’s plan, and there will be great joy.

▣ Conclusion – What happens when you pray
1. Your prayer is imprinted in your brain.
2. It is imprinted in your spirit.
3. It is delivered to the throne (Revelation 8:3–5).
▷ Prayer is everything. Nothing else works—Only!

Hymn
Jesus Is My Way, Truth, and Life

Jesus is my way,
And He is my truth,
Jesus is the life in me
Since I met the Lord,
Asked Him in my heart
My life’s never been the same

When I am in Him,
And He is in me
He will answer all my prayers
What I have is something
That the world can’t offer
What I have in Jesus is true peace

In this life, I live for Jesus Christ
With His covenant rooted in my heart
When the Lord gives me His power
He will use my life to share
His gospel to the world.

Prayer · Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
forever and ever.
Amen.

Hymn
We Will Keep Our Faith Alive!
Don Besig · Nancy Price

Gathered here, within this place,
We can share in God’s redeeming grace.
There’s no room for doubt or fear;
We can feel His presence here.
As we face each passing day,
We will serve and honor and obey;
And if hope should start to dim,
We will know our trust is in Him.

And we will keep our faith alive,
God will always be our guide.
Through the darkest night,
We will see God’s light.
We will keep our faith alive!

We will live as God has planned,
Though at times we may not understand.
Many things we may not see,
But our faith will help us believe.
From His Word we learn the truth;
Through His love we all are born anew.
With His help, we will not fail
For we know our God will prevail.  Chorus

Benediction
