Praise — It Is Well

Confession of Faith
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy universal Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body
And life everlasting. Amen.

The Church, the Model of Heaven

Sunday 2nd Service Worship / Temple Building Dedication Worship
Title/Scripture: The Church, a Model of the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 22:1-14)
Speaker: Rev. Ryu Kwang-soo
Date/Place: May 22, 2022, Immanuel Church (Busan)

Matthew 22:1-14

01 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:
02 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
03 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
04 Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
05 But they paid no attention and went off — one to his field, another to his business.
06 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them.
07 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
08 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come.
09 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’
10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.
13 Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 For many are invited, but few are chosen.

Summary

You must always remember what time it is right now, and what kind of time it will be from Monday onward once worship ends. Knowing the church correctly is a tremendous answer.

▣ Intro_ You must know what is happening right now.

1. Identity – the children of God have a different identity.
1) John 8:44 – unbelievers belong to “your father the devil” and are constantly attacked by the devil through fortune-telling and shamanistic rituals.
2) 1 Corinthians 3:16 – those who are saved have God’s Holy Spirit dwelling within them, invisibly.

2. Prayer – what happens during the time of worship
1) Psalm 103:20-22 – angels, heavenly host – the word is fulfilled, God’s presence occurs, and God’s plans are accomplished. At this time God sends angels, the heavenly host.
2) Revelation 8:3-5 – the prayer being offered now rises to the throne and is placed in a bowl before God.
▷ Those who pray knowingly come to enjoy the tremendous power of the spiritual world.
3) Daniel 10:10-20 – the moment you pray, from the very start God sends his messenger.

3. Fullness (History) – when this timetable (Intro 1, 2) continues and a moment of fullness comes, history occurs.
1) Matthew 12:28-30 – “When the Holy Spirit comes and Satan is bound, the kingdom of God has come.”
2) Acts 1:3 – for 40 days he explained the things of the kingdom of God.
3) Acts 1:8 – when the time of fullness comes, power appears and you become witnesses to the ends of the earth.
▷ The figures who completely changed the world of politics by holding this secret of prayer were Joseph and David. Figures like these must begin to rise. On the Lord’s Day you must enter into deep prayer. During the six days, the answer gets confirmed.

▣ Main_ Worship (Church)

1. Participating in the kingdom of heaven banquet
1) The Triune God – participating in the special gathering where the Triune God is present
2) The throne – the time when the blessing of the throne comes
3) Calvary, Mt Olive, Mark’s upper room – the secret of enjoying, exactly as they are, the answers that happened at Calvary, were promised at Mt Olive, and occurred at Mark’s upper room

2. Participating in the wedding banquet
▷ If Christ is our bridegroom, the believer is the bride.
1) A place where there is covenant
2) A place where there is joy
3) A place where the future is contained
▷ In the nation of Israel, weddings are held in three stages. The gathering of only the family is called the betrothal ceremony. The second wedding is held at the bride’s house. The time for the groom to go to the bride’s house is not fixed. So it is similar to the second coming of Jesus, our bridegroom. The wedding is held again at the groom’s house. We too will hold a wedding banquet again when we go to the kingdom of heaven.

3. The gathering of those wearing wedding clothes
▷ At that time, clothing indicated one’s status. Only those wearing wedding clothes were gathered.
1) Genesis 3:15 – those who knew moved the age.
2) Exodus 3:18 – when they became slaves, “go and offer sacrifice.”
▷ This was a promise of Christ. Human beings can never overcome disaster, the background of hell, and the dark background of Satan. The word that overcomes it is “Christ.” That is why it is said, “clothed with Christ.”
3) Isaiah 7:14 – this appeared again when they had fallen. Daniel and the three young men who understood this word overturned Babylon.
4) Matthew 16:16 – when they forgot again and became a subject nation, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
▷ The gathering of those clothed in wedding garments who save the world and transform the world is the church, it is worship. That is participating in that banquet.

▣ Conclusion_ The Temple

The temple is what can properly send out this tremendous truth through evangelism and mission.

1. The court of the Gentiles, the court of the children, the court of prayer – the reason the first, second, and third temples in Jerusalem fell, and the reason churches around the world are closing down, are the same. He commanded three courts, but they made them and then sold animals and exchanged coins there, until they did away with them.

2. 237, healing, summit – a temple is a facility where people from the 237 nations can come and receive healing to their heart’s content and become summits.

3. Culture – whether it is God’s culture or idol culture is judged by the temple.

▷ This is spiritual warfare. Pray earnestly before God about what record you will leave in God’s work going forward. What kind of footprint will you leave behind? What is needed? You must be a servant, using the power of this gospel to save many people across the nation and the world.

Transcript

There are also people who worship all day on the Lord’s Day, from morning to night, at church. What’s the difference? Some people, well, just barely attend the first service and leave. Others don’t even realize it’s Sunday. Then after a while, “Oh, today is Sunday.” There are people like that too. And you must always remember. You must remember what time it is now, and what kind of time it will be from Monday onward after worship ends.

This morning, Jesus confirmed for us something very important — what the cornerstone that builds our lives is. If that is set properly, the answer just comes. If you build a building on the wrong foundation, it’s a disaster. That is what Jesus was talking about.

Today, our families in Europe, America, and elsewhere are also joining us in worship. What kinds of things might be happening? Also, today we are glad that Assemblyman Yang Jun-mo is joining us in worship. Candidate Seo Seong-han is also worshiping with us. Originally, Assemblyman Yang Jun-mo — Elder Yang is an elder at Dongsam Church now and has been a great help to our church. Also, Assemblyman Yang Jun-mo’s aunt is Deaconess Yang Hye-eun of our Immanuel Seoul Church. We are practically all one family. This week, in regard to our nation as well, you must pray especially hard. The moment I heard these people were coming, I realized, “Ah… now is the time for us to pray for our nation.” That is what I thought.

Jesus said this. Today in chapter 22, verse 1, “The kingdom of heaven is like,” it explains in verse 2. Then it goes on to say that a banquet was held, and when people were invited to the banquet, they didn’t come — that kind of story. The servants who were sent to invite people to the banquet were beaten and even killed — that kind of story comes up. So the servants went out to the street corners and invited many people to come to the banquet — that is the story. At first glance, you might think this is just a parable Jesus told, but if you understand it well, there is a tremendous answer contained in it.

“The Church, a Model of the Kingdom of Heaven”

Knowing the church correctly is a tremendous answer. It is the church, a model of the kingdom of heaven.

▣ Intro_ Now

So you must know what is happening right now. Now, you must know what will happen tomorrow.

1. Identity

The children of God have a different identity.

1) John 8:44

No matter how much you explain, why do unbelievers go to fortune-tellers and shamanistic rituals? They belong to “your father the devil” right here. It’s very unpleasant, but there’s no helping it. So it is entirely normal for unbelievers to go find a person possessed by a demon for fortune-telling and rituals. Why? Because they are children of the devil. And so they keep being deceived and attacked by the devil like this.

2) 1 Corinthians 3:16

Those who are saved have God’s Holy Spirit dwelling within them, invisibly.

These things are about the kingdom of heaven. Ordinary people don’t even know about this. Most of you take it for granted, but this is what I always talk about. If you really meet a person possessed by a demon, the moment they see you, they know instantly that you are a child of God.

I’ve told you this before too, and you’re probably hearing my sermon right now. In America too, just like in Korea, there are places where people pay money to have their fortune told. Usually friends say, “Let’s go, come on, let’s go.” A friend who believes in Jesus keeps saying no, but they kept insisting she come along. So, inwardly, she wanted to go too. “Let’s try it.” When they had their fortune told, it cost something like 50 dollars. The moment she paid the 50 dollars, this person took her hand and got everything right about her. It’s astonishing. This person, being possessed by a demon, got the past completely right and talked about the future. Who wouldn’t be drawn in? But the moment this fortune-teller took the hand of this deaconess — she was a deacon at the time — this person began shaking all over and couldn’t speak. So he pushed the money back and told her to leave. “I can’t do this with you,” he said. Her friend saw this and thought, “Wow, there really is something here.” There is indeed.

The moment you are saved, you become a child of God, and the Holy Spirit comes to rule over you. Many people succeed like this, so why do they fail like this instead? It’s because of this part (John 8:44). You must know this.

2. Prayer – Worship

What happens during your time of prayer, during your time of worship?

1) Psalm 103:20-22 – angels, heavenly host

If you look at Psalm 103, verses 20, 21, and 22, you’ll see that the moment you worship and pray, the word is fulfilled. Right? The moment you pray and worship, God’s presence occurs. By the Holy Spirit. Right? God’s plans are fulfilled there.

At this time, it’s explained that God sends angels, an invisible heavenly host. This is tremendous.

2) Revelation 8:3-5

When the apostle John was in exile, if you look, it’s recorded in Revelation chapter 8, verses 3 and 5, right? The prayer you offer right now all rises up to the throne and is placed in a bowl. Before God. Right now. So it’s tremendous, everyone. Those who know this and pray come to enjoy tremendous power in the spiritual world.

3) Daniel 10:10-20

If you look at Daniel chapter 10, verses 10 through 20, it’s recorded that “the moment you pray, from the very start, God has already sent his messengers.”

3. Fullness (History)

The important thing is the third point. We often say things like, “I suddenly just collapsed…” That’s how we talk. As if something happened suddenly. But it’s not sudden. It’s been building for a long time. Right? Many people also say, “My heart suddenly hurts…” It’s true the heart suddenly hurts, but it’s been building for a long time. Someone told me, “I always had physical exams and there was nothing wrong, but suddenly I found out I have terminal stomach cancer.” But there’s no such thing as sudden. That’s just because the checkups they went to were done carelessly, that’s all — there’s no such thing.

The really important third point for us is this thing called fullness. Jesus talked about this. Right? When this timetable (Intro 1-2) continues, and this fullness happens, history occurs. Someone who is always in disbelief — when this fullness comes, one day a spiritual problem erupts. Right? Someone who is always troubled in a spiritually dark world — one day a spiritual incident erupts, some day.

1) Matthew 12:28-30

If you keep praying like this, Jesus said something. What did Jesus say? In Matthew chapter 12, verses 28 and 30, “When the Holy Spirit comes and Satan is bound, the kingdom of God has come.”

2) Acts 1:3

If you look at Acts chapter 1, verse 3, “For 40 days he explained the things of the kingdom of God.”

3) Acts 1:8

When this time of fullness finally comes, power appears and you become witnesses to the ends of the earth.

You must remember this. I always share this as my testimony with you — I don’t have a special prayer time. I just always keep praying, continually, 24 hours. You have no idea how good it is.

Now, the figures who completely transformed the world of politics by holding this secret of prayer (Intro) were Joseph and David. Isn’t that right? Now, figures like these among us must begin to rise. It’s certain. It’s happening right now, I tell you.

If you see someone who, during the time of Sunday worship, just gathers and always gossips about people — that person is a real fool. On Sunday, you must go deep into prayer. During these six days, this is when the answer gets confirmed.

▣ Main_ Worship (Church)

Now then, what is it that we gather for in worship today? It appeared in today’s Scripture.

1. Kingdom of heaven banquet

Worship is participating in the kingdom of heaven banquet.

2. Wedding banquet

If so, then it’s not just any banquet. What is it? It is like participating in a wedding banquet. Jesus used a parable.

3. Gathering of those wearing wedding clothes

So then what is it to worship at church right now? It’s the gathering of those wearing wedding clothes. Those without wedding clothes were driven out. This is a tremendous statement.

If you know this (Intro), you won’t get bored even if you sit here all day long. You get to enjoy many blessings of prayer. Those who enjoy many blessings of prayer don’t need to talk much, because they are constantly enjoying prayer.

1. Kingdom of heaven banquet

What does it mean to have participated in the kingdom of heaven banquet?

1) The Triune God

It means participating, exactly as the model of the kingdom of heaven, in the special gathering where the Triune God is present.

2) The throne

What is the kingdom of heaven banquet? It’s the time when the blessing of the throne comes upon you. That’s tremendous, isn’t it?

3) Calvary, Mt Olive, Mark’s upper room

So now, simply put, it is telling of the secret of enjoying, exactly as it is, the answer that happened at Calvary, was promised at Mt Olive, and occurred at Mark’s upper room.

2. Wedding banquet

Now, why is it called a wedding banquet? This is because, if Christ is our bridegroom, the believer is the bride. What does that mean?

1) Covenant

It means a place where there is a covenant.

2) Joy

It’s not just a place of covenant. What happens at a wedding banquet? At a wedding banquet, there is a great deal of joy, praise, and glory — those kinds of things. Among them, the greatest thing is joy, isn’t it? Right?

3) Future

Here there is also contained a tremendous future.

Why is it called a wedding banquet? In the nation of Israel, marriage involves three banquets. The gathering of only the family is called the betrothal ceremony. In our terms, that’s the engagement.

Then comes the second wedding, the wedding ceremony. How is the second ceremony done? It’s held at the bride’s house. But by Israelite law, in principle, by tradition, the time when the groom comes to the bride’s house is not fixed. It’s not that he’ll come tomorrow or the day after — say he says he’ll come Tuesday, but even the exact time on Tuesday isn’t fixed. He usually comes very late at night. That’s why the story of waiting with lamps lit comes up. So that’s why some people fall asleep from exhaustion — the story of the virgins comes from this too. It’s very meaningful. This includes something similar to the second coming of Jesus, who comes in place of the bridegroom — that story is included in this, right now.

Then, after the wedding ceremony is held at the bride’s house, they take her to the groom’s house, and hold it there again. This has a tremendous meaning. We too will hold a wedding banquet again when we go to the kingdom of heaven. It’s a tremendous thing. You get to enjoy these enormous secrets during worship.

3. Gathering of those wearing wedding clothes

What does it mean to have worn wedding clothes? These wedding clothes refer to garments. For example, right now we all wear the same kind of clothes. But back then, clothing indicated one’s status — it was fixed. Nowadays, President Yoon Seok-yeol and the rest of us wear the same kind of clothes. But back then, there was clothing worn only by kings. So you had to wear clothes fitting your status. That’s why only those wearing wedding clothes were gathered here. It’s very important.

1) Genesis 3:15

The most important flow in Scripture — those who knew Genesis 3:15 moved the age.

2) Exodus 3:18

After being forgotten, it came up again in Exodus 3:18, when they became slaves. “Go and offer a sacrifice of blood.” This is the Passover. Can you easily understand this? You probably can’t. This was a promise of Christ.

Human beings can never overcome disaster, the background of hell, and the dark background of Satan. The word sent that overcomes it is Christ. That is why it is said one is “clothed with Christ.” That’s a very important statement.

3) Isaiah 7:14

This appeared again when they had fallen. Isaiah 7:14: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel.” Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Esther, who understood this word, overturned Babylon.

4) Matthew 16:16

They forgot again and became a subject nation. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The gathering of those clothed in wedding garments who save the world and transform the world — that is the church, that is worship, that’s what it means. It is participating in that banquet.

Now, if you don’t recover this thing I am talking about right now, your life of faith is entirely useless. The answer won’t come either. Even if it comes, you won’t recognize it. This always happens (Intro). Your identity has changed, I tell you. When you pray, this is bound to happen, and when it becomes full, history occurs.

(Church)

The place where such people gather is the church, and that is worship.

▣ Conclusion_ Temple

Let me conclude. Today is our temple building dedication service, so then, what is the temple? What is the temple? The temple is what can properly send out this tremendous truth through evangelism and mission. In other words, the first, second, and third temples in Jerusalem all fell, didn’t they? Why did they fall? You already know that. If you know that, you’ll know why churches around the world close down. It’s the same thing.

1. The court of the Gentiles, the court of the children, the court of prayer

God commanded the court of the Gentiles, the court of the children, and the court of prayer. But they built these in the temple and then sold animals and exchanged coins there, and eventually did away with them entirely. You must remember this without fail.

2. 237, healing, summit

A temple is a facility where these people can come from the 237 nations and receive healing to their heart’s content and become summits. You must pray with this in mind. We shouldn’t just chant slogans — we must build a system that allows the 237 nations to come. That is what the temple is.

What era are we in right now? Right now. If we can’t connect with the 237 nations and if diverse peoples can’t come, that can’t be considered a proper church. That’s why we’re looking at this screen right now, right? This is different, everyone. Even our church now, both the field team and the headquarters, is putting this together so well, and I’m grateful. Already, this — the materials — are different. When viewed from other countries, when everyone sees it, it’s already different. Through the RUTC broadcast, it’s going out to over a hundred nations, and now it’s being made in more than a dozen languages for each country.

Now, the church can gather without a building, but the reason the temple is important is because it’s important for doing things like this (Conclusion 2).

3. Culture

The truly important third point is this. Is it God’s culture or idol culture? This is judged by the temple.

Now, we here in Yeongdo — building the most outstanding temple? That completely overturns culture. Right? Build it. Build at least one part of this temple so cultural performances can be held there. Build it so many different peoples can come and rest there. I will prepare the content, so you prepare the system. This is war, spiritual warfare. There’s no way we can fail to receive an answer.

Especially, our Immanuel Church here in Busan is a bit different too. When I watch you all, it seems like you have no strength at all, yet you do have strength — like that. I don’t understand it. This time too, only you — while hosting the missionary and holding our mission conference, you gave so much in offering that it was sent up to headquarters with surplus. Headquarters is having a hard time. Only our Immanuel Church. Other places can’t do it, because they don’t have the strength — they can’t. We didn’t even ask for anything, but when they came and saw, that’s how it turned out. “The elders gave this much, so it just kept adding up…” “I already figured it would be about that much.” That’s what I said.

Please pray earnestly before God about what kind of record you will leave in God’s work going forward. We don’t know when we’ll go, when we’ll have to leave this earth. We don’t know when. What kind of footprint will we leave behind? And also, once we reach our appointed time, nothing else is needed. What is it that is truly needed?

Someone suddenly fell ill, and when I asked, they said they were in so much pain they wanted to go quickly. They were in so much pain. In that kind of situation, no knowledge, nothing you possess, is of any use. Wow, how much pain must they have been in, to want to go so quickly, from so much suffering. I looked at that person — no ordinary person — and thought, “Ah… we human beings amount to nothing unless we stand before God.” I thought that. You must see this accurately.

You must be a servant, using the power of this gospel to save many people across the nation and the world. I bless you, in the name of Jesus, that this week will be a week of receiving new grace. Let us pray.

Prayer

We thank you, God. We thank you that we are able to worship today with this temple building dedication service. Please restore true prayer, true worship, and the blessing of the church. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Stone Rejected by the Builders

Sunday 1st Service Worship
Title/Scripture: The Stone the Builders Rejected (Matthew 21:33-46)
Speaker: Rev. Ryu Kwang-soo
Date/Place: May 22, 2022, Immanuel Church (Busan)

Matthew 21:33-46

33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35 The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.
37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. “They will respect my son,” he said.
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, “This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.”
39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them.
46 They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.

Summary

If the foundation is not firm, it shakes and collapses. Today Jesus said that the stone which many builders rejected has become the cornerstone of the corner. The cornerstone means the foundation stone. It is not the answer that is important, but the source of the fundamental answer that is important. More important than healing is the fundamental strength of the body.

▣ Intro_ On what foundation will you build your life? Set the cornerstone that makes the foundation of your life firm, correctly.

1. Unbeliever – because they do not believe in God, they go to a person possessed by a demon for fortune-telling or shamanistic rituals, and that becomes the foundation stone of their life.

2. Church members whose foundation stone is wrong – they distort the gospel so that unbelievers cannot receive help.

3. Believers who have set Christ, the Rock, as the foundation of their life – from that point on, the answers keep coming.
1) Satan, who tries to destroy you, is afraid only of Christ.
2) What Satan likes most is that people who attend church do not know the value of the gospel.

▣ Main_ What to confirm – “Have you never read that the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?” (verse 42)

1. David, who held on to this covenant (Psalm 118:1-22)
1) What Jesus quoted from what David said in Psalm 118:22 – “The stone the builders rejected will become the essential cornerstone.”
2) The reason David never collapsed – he set the foundation of his life on the Rock called Christ.
▷ Realizing the gospel is impossible without the grace of God.
3) One who truly knows God – God will deliver him from any crisis.

2. Jesus’ parable of the vineyard farmers (verses 33-42)
1) The owner entrusted the vineyard to the farmers, and when he sent servants and his son to ask for the fruit, they killed them, so the king brought his army and destroyed them.
2) When prophets are sent, they are killed; when someone comes speaking the word of salvation, they are killed; when an evangelist or a righteous organization engaged in gospel work arises, they are branded a heresy, and Jesus is opposed.
3) “The stone the builders rejected has truly become the foundational cornerstone.” (verse 42)

3. Peter, who held on to this covenant
1) Matthew 16:16 – what Jesus said when Peter made his confession of faith – Matthew 16:18 “You are Peter, and on this rock that will never be shaken I will build my church.”
2) Acts 4:11-12 – Peter’s confession when he stood in court after raising up the lame man – “Do you not know that the stone which many builders rejected has become the cornerstone? There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
▷ Hold on to this covenant. Any problem may come, it is fine. It is not a problem. It is rather a blessing.
3) 1 Peter 2:7-9 – “Do you not know that unbelievers, the stone the builders rejected, has become the cornerstone?”, “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, called to proclaim this light.”
▷ God entrusted world evangelization to this Peter.

▣ Conclusion_ We must break free from religion. Christianity is not a religion but the gospel.
▷ A church that only fights has set that as its foundation. I decided to break free from that. So I do not fight. A church that relies too heavily on humanism has set humanism as its foundation. A church built on self-assertion and doing things its own way has set that as its foundation. Here, people who are prepared to preach the gospel are gathered, and people who preach the gospel come. That has become our foundation. Just think about it for one week. You will find yourself in a place of important answers.

Transcript

Last week we heard the lesson of the fig tree. Do not try to get a special answer; if you engrave it in your heart for one week, the answer will come on its own. Most people will not do it. Jesus said that if you do it, you could even move a mountain.

So then, what covenant should we hold on to this week? It is quite urgent.

Long ago, the Seongsu Bridge in Seoul collapsed. Inspectors had reportedly said several times that it was dangerous. Even so, it was somehow left neglected, and suddenly the bridge fell. When the bridge fell, the cars that were passing over it at the time all fell into the water. Also, long ago, the Sampoong Department Store collapsed. When it collapsed, many people died. There too, inspectors had reportedly said several times that the Sampoong Department Store was cracking. They had said it, but nothing was done. Then one day it collapsed and the accident happened. Many people died, and we heard many stories about those who died. One person had gone to Seoul just once and happened to enter that department store and died there. And not long ago, an apartment building collapsed in Gwangju as well.

Why did they collapse? It is not that the top of the Seongsu Bridge suddenly flew off and it collapsed. It is not that the Sampoong Department Store suddenly shook and collapsed. It seems as if it suddenly collapsed, but if you look into it, there is one cause. The pillars supporting that building had shaken. The pillars that were supposed to hold up the bridge shook, and so it collapsed. And what are those pillars related to? They are related to the foundation. If the foundation is not firm, it shakes and collapses.

That is what Jesus was talking about today. You might pass over it lightly, but Jesus said something very important today. There was a stone that many builders rejected, and it became the cornerstone of the corner. That word “cornerstone” refers to the foundation stone. It is very important. Today you must grasp this covenant precisely.

You must grasp it well. Simply put, it is not the answer that matters, but the source of the fundamental answer that matters. Healing is important, but more important than healing is the fundamental strength within your body. Once you obtain this, the answers will keep coming from then on.

▣ Intro_ On what foundation will you build your life? Set the cornerstone that makes the foundation of your life firm, correctly.

Your life is like a building, so the question is on what foundation you will build. If that building shakes, quickly set the cornerstone that makes the foundation firm — that is the meaning. So for your bodies too, if you keep getting sick you will have to go to the hospital here and there, but if the body is fundamentally weak, it will keep hurting here and there. Those who are fundamentally healthy, for example, can overcome even COVID well and not get infected, and overcome sickness — that’s how it goes. The foundation of this building is important.

Today the district chief Kim Cheol-hun came to worship, and I thanked him. The chief said he was thankful to me, but no, I thanked him. Why? Because this building we are in was not built by us. We bought an existing one. In the meantime, the road disappeared, and this building is now in a situation where it could face an accident because a building permit cannot be issued. There could be a fire, this could collapse, and the building below us has been legally ordered to be unusable because it might collapse. So for a long time now, permission has not been granted to build. If this were to collapse or if a fire were to break out now, there would be no way to respond. In truth, we are barely holding on right now. It’s been this way for a long time. So even though many National Assembly members and the district chief were present in front, no matter how much we explained it, they wouldn’t listen. Understanding this danger and listening carefully to our explanation, so that this could get done — though it may not be strictly the right law, in principle there was just one person, our district chief. So I thanked him today. There is another vote coming up on June 1, and he must be re-elected. He must continue. What party matters to us? It doesn’t matter to us. For us, what matters is the person who helps people live well, for the sake of salvation. Even if it’s just this once, if he keeps doing it, keep doing it. That way Yeongdo can live. Why? Because the person who helps us and helps us live well is the important leader. Right? That’s why I thanked him today.

1. Unbeliever – because they do not believe in God, they go to a person possessed by a demon for fortune-telling or shamanistic rituals, and that becomes the foundation stone of their life.

If this building we’re in now were to collapse, that’s exactly what Jesus was talking about today. If the foundation is not firm right now, it becomes a big problem. Today, as you build your life, on what foundation should you set the base on which to erect the pillars completely? Without realizing it, unbelievers have no choice — they go to fortune-tellers. Because they don’t believe in God. That becomes their foundation stone. What will happen? Many people, being too exhausted, unknowingly go to shamanistic rituals. And a person possessed by a demon performs the ritual for them. That is where the foundation stone of that person’s life is laid. It is no small problem.

2. Church members whose foundation stone is wrong – they distort the gospel so that unbelievers cannot receive help.

I have attended church since I was young, and among all that, I’ve lived 70 years. I lived a life of faith. Churches have many problems. I’ve rarely seen church members receiving answers to prayer. Unbelievers see this and say, “Why do you even go to church?” I’ve made that my one regret. This enormous gospel gets distorted, so unbelievers cannot receive help.

Do you know what that means? A tremendous building is supposed to go up, but the foundation stone on which the pillars are set is wrong — that’s what it means. That is what Jesus was talking about. I tell you to lay the foundation of your health from the ground up too. Exercise, pray, breathe — what does that mean? It means laying the foundation from the ground up. If someone attends church while worshiping idols and ruins their life, that can’t be helped, but there are far too many people like that who go to church.

I’ve never been good at anything since I was young. But I am quick to notice things. I am very quick to sense things, so much so that if I worried my mother or the elders might have a hard time, I would keep quiet and endure the hardship myself rather than speak up. I couldn’t do other things well. But using that sense of perception, I watched the elders and thought, “They really live happily and rightly” — I never felt that. So although I never told an outright lie, I couldn’t help but live as if it were one.

3. Believers who have set Christ, the Rock, as the foundation of their life – from that point on, the answers keep coming.

Then one day, though I was young and immature, I set Christ, the Rock, completely as the foundation at the bottom of my life. From that point on, it became real. The answers kept coming. Many people say, “Do this, do that,” but I don’t think that’s it. The answers kept coming. For example, in a nation, suppose there is a great king. The nation’s prosperity keeps coming, right? It’s not that it changes back and forth. It’s been 30 years since I came to this town. To what extent? The answers came pouring in without pause. Now it’s not just all of you, but the whole world — that is why our broadcast matters, because now the whole world hears the message together.

1) Satan, who tries to destroy you, is afraid only of Christ.

So Satan, who tries to destroy you, is afraid of only one thing. It is not your ability. He is not afraid of that. He is not afraid of the small amount of money you have. This Satan is afraid of only one thing. What is it? It is Christ. That is the word he hates most. There are unbelievers who, when you even mention Christ, foam at the mouth out of fear.

2) What Satan likes most is that people who attend church do not know the value of the gospel.

What Satan likes most is that people who attend church do not know the value of the gospel — he likes that very much.

Now, do you understand? Your life is like a building — don’t you have to set up many pillars and rise up? Make the foundation something that will not collapse. People did not know and rejected it, but today’s Scripture tells us that the stone the builders rejected became the cornerstone.

▣ Main_ What to confirm – “Have you never heard that the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?” (verse 42)

1. David, who held on to this covenant (Psalm 118:1-22)

Now then, since you have gotten the answer today, let’s confirm it a little. Jesus said this: “Have you never read that the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?” He asked this. Who said this? It’s asking who said it.

1) What Jesus quoted from what David said in Psalm 118:22 – “The stone the builders rejected will become the essential cornerstone.”

As you know, this is what David, the King of kings, said. In Psalm 118, David made an important statement in verse 22. “The stone the builders rejected will become the essential cornerstone.” That is what David said. Jesus is now quoting what David said. That means David knew this.

2) The reason David never collapsed – he set the foundation of his life on the Rock called Christ.

Why did David never collapse? It’s because the foundation of his life was firmly set on the covenant of Christ. “Most people will see it as worthless and throw it away. But it became the cornerstone.” That is what David said.

Realizing the gospel this deeply is so important. How difficult it is to realize the gospel truly! Right? In some sense, it is impossible without the grace of God. I still remember this. When I went to America, a pastor named Kang greeted me and said, “Ah, thank you so much for helping me realize the gospel.” He said this to me, pastor to pastor. And then he said something interesting. “Ha, for a pastor to realize the gospel is like getting struck by lightning while walking down the road. It’s that hard.” He said that. “That’s right. That’s right. I got struck by lightning.” It’s hard.

Have those pastors truly realized the gospel and laid it as the foundation of their building? They never use or exploit church members or make it into a problem. They simply cannot do it. How could they exploit the church and the members like that? That’s absolutely impossible. Right? It’s also hard for them to fail, because once the foundation is firmly set on the Rock called Christ, the building never shakes no matter how high it rises. David saw this. Amazing, isn’t it?

3) One who truly knows God – God will deliver him from any crisis.

Let me read Psalm 118 that David wrote. This is what David said. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let Israel say: ‘His love endures forever.'” This is the praise David is offering now. In verse 3, “Let the house of Aaron say: ‘His love endures forever.’ Let those who fear the Lord say: ‘His love endures forever.'” This is the psalm David is writing now. “When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies.” David never once took revenge. He never once got back at his enemies. He kept fleeing while winning victory in a high position. One who truly knows God — especially our district chief here who truly knows God. God will deliver him from any crisis. That is David’s confession.

He also said this. “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.” He said, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I cut them down. They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the Lord I cut them down. They swarmed around me like bees, but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the Lord I cut them down. I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: ‘The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things! The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!’ I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. The Lord has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. You answered me and have become my salvation.” That is what he said. Then in verse 22, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” Jesus is now quoting this. Amazing, isn’t it?

I hope you will think about this over the coming week. Almost all unbelievers have no choice, but even believers, when building an enormous structure, imagine that its foundation is shaking. They fail to realize that part at all, and keep blaming others. That’s it. David is the witness.

2. Jesus’ parable of the vineyard farmers (verses 33-42)

1) The owner entrusted the vineyard to the farmers, and when he sent servants and his son to ask for the fruit, they killed them, so the king brought his army and destroyed them.

And Jesus spoke directly about this. You heard the parable today. The owner went far away and entrusted the vineyard, and when he sent a servant to the workers in the vineyard asking for the fruit, they killed the servant. How wicked they were — later, when he sent his son, they killed him too. And this is what Jesus said next — the king himself brought his army and told them to destroy those farmers.

2) When prophets are sent, they are killed; when someone comes speaking the word of salvation, they are killed; when an evangelist or a righteous organization engaged in gospel work arises, they are branded a heresy, and Jesus is opposed.

And this is what Jesus said. What is this parable about? You send prophets, and they get killed. Even now, when someone comes speaking God’s word of salvation, they get killed. Strange, isn’t it? When someone comes just to evangelize, they get branded a heresy. It’s remarkable — it has happened without fail, every single time. Whenever a righteous organization rises up to do gospel work, it is unconditionally branded a heresy. They even opposed Jesus himself.

3) “The stone the builders rejected has truly become the foundational cornerstone.” (verse 42)

So the stone the builders rejected has truly become the foundational cornerstone. That is what Jesus said. You must remember this.

3. Peter, who held on to this covenant

1) Matthew 16:16 – what Jesus said when Peter made his confession of faith – “You are Peter, and on this rock that will never be shaken, I will build my church.”

Peter held onto this covenant, right? After that. When Peter had already made his confession of faith, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Jesus said this: “You are Peter, and on this rock that will never be shaken I will build my church. On this rock that can hold the whole universe, I will build my church.”

2) Acts 4:11-12 – Peter’s confession when he stood in court after raising up the lame man – “Do you not know that the stone which many builders rejected has become the cornerstone? There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

After this, Peter, remember, raised up a lame man and then stood in court, right? You remember that. After raising up the lame man, he stood trial, and when Peter was being questioned, he answered — Jesus had asked him, “Which is easier: to say, ‘Go in the name of Jesus of Nazareth,’ or to heal the sick?” Both are difficult. Since this lame man is standing there, isn’t he a witness? The witness is right there. That’s when Peter said this: “Do you not know that the stone which many builders rejected has become the cornerstone?” That’s what Peter said then. And he added, “There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” God entrusted world evangelization to this Peter. Right?

You must truly grasp this covenant today. There’s no need to worry about anything, and no need to worry even if problems come. That’s what I’ve realized after 40 years of evangelism. It doesn’t matter what problem comes, it’s fine. It’s not a problem. It’s rather a blessing. People say our nation has many problems, but I don’t see it that way. It is a nation that can evangelize the world. Right? Faith matters, but even the very character of Korea makes it a nation capable of world evangelization, like this. In the middle of COVID, churches still gather stubbornly — only in Korea. Only in Korea, I tell you. In fact, church members are the ones shouting because church construction isn’t happening fast enough. Only in Korea. It can only lead to world evangelization. Korea cannot fail. Hold onto this covenant firmly.

3) 1 Peter 2:7-9 – “Do you not know that unbelievers, the stone the builders rejected, has become the cornerstone?”, “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, called to proclaim this light.”

Do you know what Peter eventually said? In 1 Peter chapter 2, verse 7, he said the same thing. What did he say? “Unto you who believe, this stone is precious, but to those who do not believe, the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” And he said, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, called to proclaim this light.” That is 1 Peter 2:7-9. God entrusted world evangelization to this insufficient Peter.

You must truly hold onto this covenant today. You must break free from religion. Religion creates all sorts of things and oppresses people — you must break free from that. Christianity? If misunderstood, it becomes a religion. Christianity is not a religion. It is the gospel. Right? You must break free from religion.

▣ Conclusion_ We must break free from religion. Christianity is not a religion but the gospel.

I have told you this many times. This is the first church where I have served as senior pastor. Before this, I was an associate pastor. There were five churches where I served as an associate. The first was my home church. And the seventh church, where I came last, may be my first and last, but this is where I came as senior pastor. In those seven churches I saw many things — our first home church had nothing but constant fighting, though there was nothing to fight over. That became its foundation. I decided to break free from that. So there are probably few people who fight with me. I don’t fight. Why? There’s no need to fight. At one church I went to, they relied too much on humanism. That became their foundation, laid in humanism. At another church, it was completely self-assertion and doing things their own way. That became their foundation. At the church I was at right before coming here, there was so much fighting that police had to come to stop it. That church had fighting as its foundation. And then I came straight here. People prepared to preach the gospel are gathered here. It’s a thankful thing. And people who preach the gospel come here. That has become our foundation. It’s tremendous. Just wait and see.

This week, just think about this one week. In some ways there will be another message next week, so just think about it for this one week. You will be in a place of important answers. May God’s blessing overflow upon Yeongdo and the whole world. Let us pray.

Prayer

We thank you, God. Let today be a precious day of laying the cornerstone. Let it be a timetable for setting the foundation on the Rock. Let it be the beginning of a new start for my life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Greatest Evidence of the Covenant

Sunday 2nd Service
Title/Scripture: The Greatest Evidence of the Covenant (Matthew 21:23-27)
Speaker: Rev. Ryu Gwang-su
Date/Location: May 15, 2022, Immanuel Church (Seoul)

Matthew 21:23-27

23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

Summary

If a person takes on a special ideology from childhood, truth does not enter. From childhood, the Jews heard that the Lord was the only God of their nation, and that a messiah would come to destroy other nations and make their nation the greatest sovereign nation. Yet Jesus was born in a stable as the son of a carpenter, so the Jews raised the issue that they could not believe he was the Son of God. Today they raised the issue of where he received the authority he was exercising. At that point Jesus asked where John’s baptism came from. So they used their wits and lied, saying they did not know. Jesus also said he could not tell them where his authority came from.

▣ Introduction_ Matthew 11:11 “Among those born of women there hath not risen a greater”

1. Matthew 13:11-13 He spoke in parables in order to conceal what is truly valuable.

2. Matthew 21:24 (Matthew 3:15)
When Jesus said, “Let it be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness,” John the Baptist, who had said he was not qualified to baptize Jesus, baptized him. Why did Jesus want to receive baptism from John? On the Day of Atonement, which removes all curses, calamities, and sin, the lamb’s neck is pierced and its blood drawn, and the priest lays his hands on the lamb’s head and speaks and prays, transferring the sins of himself and all the people onto its head. This is what John the Baptist prayed as he laid his hands on Jesus’ head:
1) Priest (calamity) – the priest who removes all sin
2) King (king) – the king who overcame Satan’s authority
3) Prophet (way) – the prophet who opened the way to meet God

3. The cross (Isaiah 53:1-6) – the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20) – From this point on, Jesus explained that he would die on the cross to pay for everything, and rise again on the third day.
▷ Take hold of the covenant regarding what you must do today. Make this place the best place of prayer in the world. A full-fledged movement of prayer, healing, and Remnant must arise. The answer is this (Introduction point 2).

237 nations, healing, summit – people of many nations are wandering the world just to survive. These people must be healed. This place must become a place of prayer, a place of rest. They must be made into a summit that knows the power of God.

▣ Main

1. 120 people – those who understood these words became the 120.
1) Mt Calvary – those who know the event (liberation) of Mt Calvary
2) Mt Olive – those who know the answer (prayer) of Mt Olive
3) Mark’s upper room – those who gathered in Mark’s upper room

2. Paul – Paul, who understood these words, arose.
1) Acts 13:5-12 He healed these people.
2) Acts 16:16-18 He healed one possessed by a demon.
3) Acts 19:8-20 They burned all the books of idol worship.

3. Wandering nation – RT – Israel became a wandering nation and entered among the great powers. The Remnant who remained here evangelized the world.
1) The one who remains, the one who stays, the one who is left, the one who is kept – they stood as the one who remains, the one who stays, the one who is left, the one who is kept.
2) Pilgrim, conqueror – they stood as pilgrims and conquerors who save the whole world.
3) Platform, watchtower (bartizan), antenna – build a platform, a bartizan, an antenna that the 237 nations can look to and come.

▣ Conclusion

1. All day – deep prayer, forum (covenant), healing – Starting next week when you come to church, hold onto the message the whole day and have a time of deep prayer walking around this area. Hold a covenant forum with people. On at least one day, find out who among you is sick, connect with them, and pray for healing together, breathing deeply together.
▷ Do not spend this day of worship carelessly; it must be spent as something extremely important.
2. Evidence – seeing the evidence, yet another person comes.
3. Opportunity – we must give the precious people of many nations and the Remnant who have come to us, struggling just to survive, a first, last, and eternal opportunity.
▷ Tell the people of many nations, “Restore everything and go as a witness.”

Transcript

If a person takes on a special ideology from childhood, truth does not enter at all. That is why childhood education is important. You can consider that it almost never leaves. Unless some great hardship comes and completely changes the brain, it doesn’t leave. Instead, what is imprinted in childhood produces an answer as time goes by. That is why our organization and church use the word Remnant.

From childhood, the Jews heard, “The Lord is not the God of other nations, but the one God of our nation.” That is what they heard. “A messiah will come who will crush all other nations and make our nation the greatest sovereign nation.” They heard this from childhood. But Jesus was born in a stable and came as the son of a carpenter. So the Jews said they absolutely could not believe he was the Son of God. Even when God’s tremendous power appeared, they still did not believe. They followed him around picking arguments. Today, what argument did they pick? They picked this argument: “Where did you receive the authority you are now exercising? Where did this authority originally come from?” Like that. The Pharisees, who held powerful positions, the scribes, these kinds of people came and spoke to him. “Where did you receive it?” Then Jesus asked this: “Where did John’s baptism come from?” That is what he asked. When he asked that, these people began to use their wits. Ah, if they answered one way they would be cornered, if they answered the other way they would be cornered, and they feared the people. So they lied. They said, “We do not know.” That is what they said. Then Jesus answered like this: “Then I too cannot tell you where my authority came from.” Today, unless it is explained thoroughly, this is a story you cannot understand at all.

▣ Introduction_ Matthew 11:11

Jesus said this in Matthew 11:11. Looking at John the Baptist, he said, “Among those born of women, he is the greatest.” He said this. Since Jesus said it, John was the greatest figure among all who had ever lived until then. Now, when we look at the Pharisees’ question, there is something we must absolutely know here.

1. Matthew 13:11-13

In Matthew chapter 13 Jesus spoke while giving a parable. When asked why he gave parables, he said this: “I have given parables so that you may understand well.” He said, “I have given parables so that you may not understand well, so that others may not hear.”

“The Greatest Evidence of the Covenant”

Now, this is today’s title: the greatest evidence of the covenant among evidences. If we take hold of this, it will work out. Because it is the greatest evidence of the covenant. This came out today from Jesus’ conversation in Matthew chapter 11.

First, you all need to realize something. What God truly considers valuable, He places in such a way that it does not show (Matthew 13:11-13). Now, it is hard for those who understand these words. For instance, as I have said before, if the choir members, since this is so important, were given, say, ten million won every time they sing once, that would be fine too. Why? Because it is so precious. Especially those who carry instruments are heavy work, so give them fifteen million won, like that. Today I also saw that my grandson, performing in the choir for the first time as a special guest, would get twenty million won. Now, if you did it that way, what would happen to our church? Enormous singers would flock here. Right? Eventually, once it becomes famous worldwide, even BTS would apply to come. “Let’s go,” they would say, but then it becomes fake. Do you understand what I mean?

So when Jesus came right into the royal palace, it caused an uproar. Right? He was the Messiah, the Christ, prophesied in Scripture that he would be born in a stable. Like this, people with great worldly desire do not believe even when God’s word is there, even after hearing it. It was clearly prophesied that he would be born in a stable. Right? Yet they still do not believe. So he used parables to hide it. You all must keep this in mind in your life of faith. You must know what it truly means to receive an answer. Then in Matthew chapter 10 he explained the parables thoroughly.

2. Matthew 21:24 (Matthew 3:15)

Now, there is so much important content here that I need to explain a little. In Matthew 21:24 he asked, “Do you know John’s baptism?” He asked, “Where did John’s baptism come from?” That’s what he asked. When he asked this, these intellectuals, who knew Scripture well, could not answer. Jesus said, “Then I cannot tell you either.” Most of you probably do not know what this means. Let me explain briefly, given the time. John the Baptist explained to people, looking at Jesus, that he was the Christ. Who was John the Baptist? He was a priest of the legitimate nation of Israel. That priest said that Jesus was the Christ, the lamb who bears the cross. That is what he was asking about. If they said, “John the Baptist is nothing special,” that would go against Scripture. If they acknowledged it, then another problem would come to them from someone else. But that is not really the important point—why did he call John the Baptist the greatest figure? He should have asked, “Do you know John? Do you know John the Baptist?” but instead he asked, “Do you know John’s baptism?”

(Matthew 3:15)

Now let me give a simple explanation here. When Jesus appeared, John the Baptist said that this person was the very Lamb of God who would bear the cross. This John the Baptist was a priest of the tribe recognized by everyone, one who baptized people. But Jesus came to John the Baptist and said, “Baptize me.” What did John the Baptist say then? He said, “No, I cannot do that. I am not worthy even to untie the strap of your sandal.” That is what he said. The word “strap of the sandal” refers to the strap of the sandal-like footwear worn in that country at the time, which they would untie and wash the feet. He said he was not even worthy to do that. In simpler terms, he said, “I cannot even be worthy to be your servant who washes your feet.” Then Jesus said this: “Let it be so now, that you and I together may fulfill God’s righteousness.” So without saying another word, John the Baptist baptized Jesus. At that moment the voice from heaven was heard. The work of the Holy Spirit broke out. That is what Jesus was now asking about.

Now, this is not something that would come up on a civil service exam, but you should still know it. Why did Jesus want to receive baptism? From John the Baptist. John the Baptist should have received it—why did Jesus receive it? There is one important event that continues from the Old Testament. What is it? There is the Day of Atonement, which removes all curses, calamities, and sin. At this time, the lamb’s neck is pierced, blood is drawn, and the priest lays his hands on the lamb’s head. This is an event that all of Israel practices. It is a great event. What do they say as they lay their hands on it? They say, “I transfer the sins of myself and all the people onto your head.” That is what they said. It is a strange event, isn’t it? And they prayed.

1) Priest (calamity)

What John the Baptist prayed as he laid his hands on Jesus’ head was: the priest who removes all sin. Calamity is not removed. The priest.

2) King (king)

The king who overcame Satan’s authority.

3) Prophet (way)

The prophet who opened the way to meet God, that is what this means.

The world looks down on this. “What is this?” they say. You all, among those who know this, even the king, when going to offer a blood sacrifice, was told, “Are you crazy? Why offer a blood sacrifice? Just do it plainly.” They said, “These people have gone mad! They must be hungry. Feed them a little rice.” A blood sacrifice—it cannot be understood. This is an extremely important matter.

That is why, as I reported earlier concerning our missionary. The presidents and leaders of America absolutely will not say it. Isn’t Elder Shin Heung-gyun someone who has devoted himself greatly to making a certain person president this time? He is in America. He absolutely will not say it. What? Eight or nine out of ten children now have lost their minds and are on medication, right now. Depending on the school there is somewhat of a difference, but it is common overall. You truly must send your children well. Studying abroad. That one student came back and said, “I want to come out to Korea.” Pastor Park Seong-jin’s daughter went to America. That is what she said. “I definitely want to come out to Korea, get married, and raise my child in Korea.” It is serious. They do not realize it. “Why believe in Jesus? Just study well and work hard. Believe in yourself and live faithfully. Why believe in Jesus for that?” That is a fair statement. But this (Introduction point 2) does not get resolved by that. What will you do? So they keep lying. Monks, please stop lying, and keep going deeper into ascetic practice. You think that will make it work, but it only gets harder. Do not go through such hardship—rest, go home, grow your hair out, and just live like that. Or shave your head bald and go that way. No, it’s the same for people who attend church too.

You all, if you don’t understand this gospel (Introduction point 2), it’s all the same. Why go through such needless suffering? This (Introduction point 2) is a fight. When I say this from Scripture, people don’t understand and say, “What strange talk is this?” That’s what happens. I am truly sorry. There are missionaries here from Japan. In every household there is at least one or two with mental illness, in Japan. They absolutely do not talk about it. It’s embarrassing, so they don’t say it, but they don’t know how to heal it, or what it even is. They don’t know why it came. It’s not that God said not to worship idols for no reason. They don’t even know why He told them not to. “Don’t bow down to things like stones—if you do, a spirit will attach to you.” They don’t understand what that means. They just don’t understand. That’s what this is about right now.

“John is the greatest among those born of women”—that was spoken in Matthew chapter 11. Then he asked again: “Do you know where John’s baptism came from?” When they said, “We don’t know,” he said, “Then I cannot tell you either.” That was Israel’s end. Exactly 40 years after that, Israel collapsed. When was it restored? It was restored in 1948. This statement is extremely important. I cannot explain it any further. So because they could not answer about John the Baptist, what happened afterward?

3. The cross – the resurrection

Now Jesus begins to explain in earnest. He explains that he would pay for everything on the cross, dying on the cross and rising again on the third day. Now, this is the first thing that is hard to believe—the resurrection. Now, because science has advanced so much, there are two things that have been proven. What are they? One is that “the earth will someday disappear.” That’s right. That the earth will disappear is something all intellectuals commonly agree on. But Scripture prophesied this beforehand—that it would disappear. It said that at that time, everyone would be resurrected so they could go to an eternal place. It said that even those who died long ago would rise again. What about those who are alive? Those who are alive will be transformed as they are.

1 Corinthians 15:20

So in 1 Corinthians 15:20 it says, “Jesus is the firstfruits of that.” He died on the cross and would rise again, as was prophesied in Isaiah 53:1-6. Now, this part (Introduction) is extremely important—this is where Christ now stands. Today, take hold of the covenant regarding what you all must do. Now let us not just go on as usual. Today Professor Han Mu-yeong came and held this “fire-preventing water gathering,” and we must also do that for the 237 nations, 237 countries. This time, whatever we do this time, make this place the best place of prayer in the world. God did not just send us here for nothing. Right? You must have your spiritual eyes opened. Now a full-fledged movement of prayer, a movement of healing, a full-fledged Remnant movement must arise here. The answer is this (Introduction point 2). Mental illness absolutely cannot be healed any other way—it is only healed by this (Introduction point 2).

237 nations

Do you all know how the people of the 237 nations are living right now? We must save them. They did not just come for no reason. It is beyond words. Even in this neighborhood, people of many nations come to get married. Others come to Korea to get a job. Later it turns out that they had a child born in that other country, and they brought the child along. But that child cannot enroll in school. Just such children—in the metropolitan area alone the statistic came out at sixteen thousand. And it turns out that’s not all either. There are cases where someone was paid money and told, “I’ll say you’re my child,” and brought along that way. It’s impossible to know, this situation. These people are wandering the world just to survive. What should we do when we call them in? Should we just give them bread? Of course we give bread, that’s basic.

Healing

We must heal these people. This must happen here. That is why I say, build such a sanctuary. Today, the matter of the 237 water is nothing at all. Why? Just develop this area entirely and get government approval. You can clear away small things like brush. Just don’t cut down the trees. Build a place of prayer and hold water gatherings. Let the people of this neighborhood be able to rest here when they come. When people of many nations come, it becomes a place of rest, and prayer happens there completely.

Let me tell you again. There’s a North Korean woman who fled carrying her child—listen to that story of her escape. When I heard it, I really cried. She couldn’t survive in North Korea, so she fled, but she had a child. What was she to do with this child? So she gave the child sleeping medicine. Why? Because if the child fell asleep, it wouldn’t make noise. The child understood too. It was so tense that even after taking the sleeping medicine, the child could not sleep. As she was escaping, the child who had taken the sleeping medicine still could not fall asleep, she said, because it was too tense. The small child, hearing her mother’s words, gripped her mother’s neck tightly, they say. All the way down until they finally escaped. And so they arrived on South Korean soil. What then, once they arrive in South Korea? They must be healed. Their long-held wounds and sicknesses must truly be healed. If we cannot do that, the church is unnecessary. Why keep a church around, causing a fuss? Just get rid of it. That is why God tore down the temple in Jerusalem. It looks as though Rome tore it down, but it was something God allowed. Jesus had prophesied it—that it would be torn down.

Summit

That is why we must truly make these people into a summit who know the power of God. This tremendous question is contained within all this.

▣ Main

Is there any greater evidence than this? Let me explain briefly.

1. 120 people

Those who understood these words became the 120.

1) Mt Calvary

Those who understood these words are those who know what event happened at Mt Calvary.

2) Mt Olive

This must be taught. It means understanding what the answer of Mt Olive is. We must heal the 237 nations, but what must we teach them? We must truly teach them what prayer is, what liberation is, what prayer is.

3) Mark’s upper room

These people gathered in Mark’s upper room, 120 of them gathered. Through them, the world was evangelized.

Our team is making this now. When people come to our church, at any time, we must produce material—people to be healed, people to become the summit can see it. Number 24. Make it.

2. Paul

Paul, who understood these words, arose. If we were to describe Paul in our own nation’s terms, he would be a graduate of Seoul National University. Paul. Right? If he was a member of the Sanhedrin, that would be like a member of the National Assembly. That’s the kind of person Paul was. And he was a Pharisee. A person of the highest rank. Yet he threw all of that away and followed. Because he knew how precious it was.

1) Acts 13:5-12

Through Paul, even people who, from the standpoint of those earlier (Introduction point 1), appeared to have no value at all—he healed them. It’s the same then as now.

2) Acts 16:16-18

When spiritual problems arise, people become demon-possessed and strange. He healed such people.

3) Acts 19:8-20

In Acts chapter 19 also, he performed healing. All the books of idol worship in that town were burned. It’s fine now, but at that time, one scroll cost about fifty million won in our Korean currency. For just one. They burned all of it, it says.

3. The wandering nation – RT

Now, look at something more important. You don’t know about the people of Israel. Why it happened. At last, Israel became a wandering nation. They entered into those great powers.

1) The one who remains, the one who stays, the one who is left, the one who is kept

The Remnant who remained here evangelized the world. So they stood as the one who remains, the one who stays, the one who is left, the one who is kept.

2) Pilgrim, conqueror

They stand not just as ordinary people, but as pilgrims and conquerors who save the whole world.

We must begin such a life, begin such work, and become such a church.

3) Platform

It’s not something simply finished. Never listen to lies about this. The 237 nations are dying right now, they say. Build a platform that they can come to. All of that is a lie.

Those who say money is everything simply have never had money. It’s not the greatest thing. If you all had one trillion won but had no ability to manage it, great disaster would come. Right? It’s not an easy thing. It would be better if it just disappeared—if you can’t manage it, you end up going to prison, because problems erupt. It’s better to live on a salary.

That happens in great powers, but in many poor nations, people are lying right now. They are getting sick and dying.

Watchtower (bartizan), antenna

Build a watchtower (bartizan) and antenna that they can look to and come. This (Introduction) is for someone who has understood. Today’s message may seem like a simple sermon to you, but it is not simple. It contains a great deal. Because such a tremendous thing happened, they asked, “By what authority are you doing this?” So he asked, “Do you know John’s baptism?” That is astonishing, yet it seems like nothing. People who know only worldly things, only eating, have no value at all, that’s it.

We must build a true church, and we must truly receive an answer. God knows which is right. We don’t even need to go as far as God—Satan knows well.

▣ Conclusion

This is the conclusion. You must now take hold of the covenant and restore all of this.

1. All day – deep prayer

Starting next week, when you come to church, hold the message the entire day and have a time of deep prayer, walking around this area like this. It’s really good, here.

Forum (covenant)

Spend one day continuously holding a covenant forum with people.

Healing

And on about one more day, identify who among you is truly suffering, connect with them, and continue praying for healing together here, breathing deeply.

Do not spend this day of worship carelessly—you must spend it as something extremely important. This is real. Then this news will reach the sick and those in hardship. Distance? It doesn’t matter at all. If needed, they will all come. Try having nothing at all here. Why would they come this far otherwise?

You yourselves must first hold this covenant properly. Try it. Let me give an example. I mentioned this yesterday. This week I had a physical examination. I was admitted and had a thorough two-day, one-night examination. Why? Because a professor I know, who always had physical exams at the university, had it done carelessly and it wasn’t discovered until his cancer reached its final stage. You must not do it carelessly. For some parts, they take photographs from top to bottom to find any problem, and that alone takes thirty minutes, they said. Okay. People say those thirty minutes are hard, but that doesn’t matter to me. Those thirty minutes—how good a time were they for me! An opportunity had come, thirty minutes. There might be moments of boredom while waiting.

I entered into deep prayer for the 237. It felt like it ended right away when I came out. It was thirty minutes, but I entered that deeply into prayer. So on the Lord’s Day when you come, don’t talk with people. Keep entering into deep prayer and pray the important prayer. Try it. See what happens.

2. Evidence

Then, even without saying a word, one day they will know. Your family, friends, relatives—they are in hardship. That is exactly calling them into evidence. Truly try it. Who benefits from it? It doesn’t matter at all. Come and receive God’s grace. Seeing the evidence, yet another person comes. “Wow, I went to that church and the prayer was good, they had all the materials, it was so good.” You can build the best church there is. That is how the condition is set up.

3. Opportunity

Third, we must do this much. To the precious people of the 237 nations and the Remnant who have come to us, many who have come struggling just to survive—we must give these people a first, a last, and an eternal opportunity. First, last, and eternal opportunity.

When I was evangelizing in the industrial complex, I spoke without holding back. I said this (Conclusion point 3): “I don’t know how long you and I will meet.” Around holidays especially they wouldn’t come back, they’d go elsewhere. Looking at the industrial complex. I asked, “How much is your salary?” They told me the amount. I said, “You came all the way here from Jeolla-do just to earn that? What a pitiful life you live.” They said no. “You are restoring everything here. When you go home, you go as a witness.” Tell that to people of many nations. “You are restoring everything and going as a witness.” They are all lying. They pretend it’s not so. It’s not exactly a lie. They pretend it’s not so. In reality they are going mad but pretend they are not. So they come. They came because of money but cannot say so. That’s how they come. If we wound them further with worldly things, this becomes a bad church. Let us pray.

Prayer

Lord, we thank You for giving us this opportunity to truly receive grace. Lord, let us restore the true power that comes down from above. So save the many nations, developed and developing, that are deceiving themselves and forcibly enduring. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Parable of the Fig Tree

Sunday 1st Service Worship
Title/Scripture: The Parable of the Fig Tree (Matthew 21:18-22)
Speaker: Pastor Ryu Kwang-su
Date/Location: May 15, 2022, Immanuel Church (Seoul)

Matthew 21:18-22

Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.

20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.

21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Summary

Why are there so many difficulties for me and my family? God loves human beings. And so, when we are on the opposite side, in order that we would not remain on the side of destruction, God is calling us out to the right side.

▣ Introduction_The secret of God contained within disaster

1. Jesus who cursed the fruitless fig tree
Even though it was not the season for bearing fruit, He cursed it. The puzzled disciples asked Jesus the reason. Jesus said that if they know and believe the reason, they can lift up a mountain and move it into the sea, and that whatever they pray for will all be answered.

2. Through the parable of the fig tree, we must firmly grasp the secret of God contained within disaster
▷ The fig tree symbolizes Israel. That the fig tree withered means it is dead. It is ruined.
1) The secret of God contained within the Bible — Why did Israel suffer disaster at the hands of seven nations? If you know the reason, the surrounding great powers become a door; if you do not know it, they become an enemy. Not knowing the reason led to war, slavery, captivity, becoming a subjugated nation, and becoming a wandering people.
2) The secret of God contained within world history — Why did the idol-worshiping great powers rise up, and why did God send Israel and the Remnant into slavery within those great powers? Except for those who realized the secret of God contained within disaster, the great powers collapsed.
3) We must grasp the secret hidden behind the difficulty that has come to us personally.

3. To what degree must we grasp it? We must believe to the extent of lifting up a mountain and moving it into the sea
1) Joseph went as a slave and brought about world evangelization. This is greater than moving a mountain.
2) Daniel and his three friends, who held this covenant and received an answer like moving a mountain into the sea.
3) The early church, which brought about a work like moving a mountain.
4) To Martin Luther, who restored the gospel amid the repeated disaster in which merit and good works were emphasized in church history and the gospel alone was erased, a miracle like moving a mountain into the sea occurred.
5) All people are sinners who have left God, and even now are being tempted by Satan and heading toward destruction — because we take this word of Scripture lightly, we cannot overcome disaster. Each time, those who grasped the tremendous secret that arises within that disaster were the ones who moved the mountain.
▷ Those who are discouraged must not remain discouraged. Also, those who are undergoing many difficulties must not be shaken. Pastors who have gone back and forth and become discouraged and given up must not give up. God will send even a slave, will send our children into captivity if need be, in order to stop the disaster.

▣ Main

1. Through all of Israel’s past disasters, the secret has been proven up to now
▷ Though it appears that Israel suffered disaster in the past, that is not the case
1) The seven Remnant members are proof — through disaster, God is changing what had been lost through deception, causing people who had fallen under the curse to miss the gospel, back again
▷ We take the gospel lightly until we are on the verge of death, and only then do we barely come to realize the gospel. People in the midst of disaster hear the gospel and come alive at once, but for us, because we hear it all the time, it becomes a situation where we generally just hear it in passing.
2) Those who went to a scene like death and, in the midst of disaster, changed things by holding onto this secret are found in Hebrews chapter 11
3) The reason God gives us difficulty is that He is trying to turn everything that was once in disaster into the secret of God

2. Because today’s urgent situation must be resolved, there is a secret contained within the disaster that God gives
1) The scribes, chief priests, Sadducees, Pharisees, the Herodians, and the many people and prophets undergoing much hardship (seven groups) — though they were a subjugated people, they were fiercely fighting to be liberated
2) But this was a tremendous sign that God was going to destroy Israel and begin again
3) Jesus, who told us not to fear the difficulty that comes to us — this is the beginning of God’s plan (Matthew 24:1-14)
▷ Even when great difficulty and war arise, He tells us that this is only the beginning, and that the end lies elsewhere. All the difficulty, disaster, and pain that has come upon you contains the secret of God. This is the evidence of Scripture.

3. Israel will in the future be scattered among many nations and be destroyed, and this is the secret of world evangelization
▷ Those who prepare for this are the ones who can lift up a mountain and move it into the sea
1) The destruction of Jerusalem by Rome in AD 70
2) The Jewish people who were scattered into about twenty-three nations centered on Europe, and were killed and massacred
3) Through those who held this secret within that suffering, world evangelization broke out rapidly

▣ Conclusion_When you realize the gospel, every disaster becomes a road; when you fail to realize it, everything becomes a wound. Since every disaster and problem of those who hold the gospel contains the secret of God, you must never be deceived
1. For Joseph, who firmly held the dream of the covenant, slavery and prison were entirely a road
2. For David, though King Saul mobilized an army to kill him, because he knew this secret, it was a road for him
3. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Daniel, and Esther likewise — all of it was a road
4. Through Luther, who knew this secret and restored the gospel, the gospel was spread throughout the entire world
▷ Through your difficulties, God will work with an amazing power like lifting up a mountain and sending it into the sea

Transcript

After our mission conference ended, prayer has begun simultaneously across the whole world. There are still those coming in from the United States and various other regions who are worshiping together with us. I hope that with today’s text, all of you will find this to be a moment when you receive the very best answer. A person who had just come to believe said this to me. They asked, “Why do so many difficult things happen to me?” And there was also someone who asked, “Why does God give our household so much hardship like this?” God loves human beings. And yet, when we are on the opposite side, God is calling us out to the right side. So that you would not remain on the side of destruction, God is calling you out. Naturally, then, it doesn’t make sense to us. Well, if that’s so, then there is a tremendous answer contained within it.

▣ Introduction_The secret of God contained within disaster

1. Jesus who cursed the fruitless fig tree

This is exactly today’s text. Jesus had now entered the city, and He saw a fig tree. At the market, the people of Israel would pick and eat that fruit. So He went to eat some fig, but there was not a single fruit on it. The leaves were thick, but there was no fruit. And so Jesus cursed the fig tree. And so that fig tree withered up. The disciples simply could not understand this at all. Today’s passage is from Matthew, but in Mark chapter 11 it says, “for the time of figs was not yet.” Doesn’t that make it even stranger? Why would Jesus go looking at a time when it wasn’t even the season for figs, and if there was none, why not simply leave it be — why curse it, and why is such a record even left for us? There is a tremendous reason. Jesus said this: “If you know this and believe, you can lift up a mountain and move it into the sea.” That is what He said. What in the world does that mean? And He also said that if you pray, you will surely receive an answer. What does this mean? If you take hold of this word today accurately, firmly, and precisely, a different life will begin.

Taking this, when we were young, there was a certain pastor who thought, “A person whose leaves are lush but who bears no fruit will be forsaken.” But that is not what this means. It’s not asking, “Is it acceptable for the fig leaves to be lush but bear no fruit?” That’s not what is being said. It was simply not the time for fruit yet.

2. Through the parable of the fig tree, we must firmly grasp the secret of God contained within disaster

Let me give you the conclusion first. The fig tree symbolizes the nation of Israel. We usually say that the cherry blossom is a symbol of Japan, don’t we? And we say that the mugunghwa symbolizes our own Republic of Korea. In the same way, the fig tree symbolizes the nation of Israel. You can somewhat sense why. As for why it is called mu-hwa-gwa — it is written as “no”, “flower”, “fruit”, meaning “fruit without flower.” It’s not that there is no flower — the flower is actually contained inside the fruit. It’s an unusual fruit that way. For a flower to exist, don’t bees and butterflies and so on have to come and something has to happen? This fruit appears to have no flower. It’s not that it has none — rather, the flower, the fruit, is contained inside. You can regard this as symbolizing Israel.

Now, what does it mean that the fig tree withered? Isn’t that the same as being dead? Isn’t that the same as being ruined? Today, all of you need to firmly grasp one single word and move forward from here. This is why I titled today’s message “The Parable of the Fig Tree.” The fig tree withering is an event, but it is a parable pointing to something far beyond itself. It is a parable of a very important secret of God. That is why I titled it “The Parable of the Fig Tree” rather than “The Incident of the Fig Tree.”

What is the word all of you must firmly grasp? It is the secret of God contained within disaster. If you do not know how to grasp this, then there is no answer to the question that the new family member asked earlier. There was a Remnant who had undergone surgery for a very serious illness, and who asked me, “Why do things like this happen to me?” In the same way, the disciples asked in bewilderment, “Why has the fig tree withered?” And Jesus said, “If you truly believe this word, this fact, this secret, and know it, you can lift up a mountain and move it into the sea.” That is hard to understand.

1) The secret of God contained within the Bible — Why did Israel suffer disaster at the hands of seven nations? If you know the reason, the surrounding great powers become a door; if you do not know it, they become an enemy. Not knowing the reason led to war, slavery, captivity, becoming a subjugated nation, and becoming a wandering people

Now, in order for all of you to receive a true answer, you truly need to look at Scripture as it actually is. Before we go into the main body, before I explain the reason, we need to review the whole of Scripture a little first. Now you will begin to notice it. It doesn’t quite make sense, does it? Why did the nation of Israel continually suffer disaster at the hands of seven nations? Does the answer come to you? It should come out. It should already be coming out right here. All around Israel, there were nothing but great powers packed together. If you know the reason, it is a door. If you do not know this secret, they become enemies. And so, war, slavery, captivity, subjugation, wandering — disaster came seven times. It doesn’t make sense, does it? What kind of book is the Bible? Simply put, it is a book about the nation of Israel being destroyed. Out of that, the secret emerged — that is what I’m saying. That is what this book is. So now you need to firmly, tightly hold on to this.

2) The secret of God contained within world history — Why did the idol-worshiping great powers rise up, and why did God send Israel and the Remnant into slavery within those great powers? Except for those who realized the secret of God contained within disaster, the great powers collapsed

In world history, there is much that doesn’t make sense, isn’t there? The answer is obvious and right there, and yet we fail to understand it. Why did great powers who worshiped idols like that rise up so powerfully? This is world history.

Why were the people of Israel, the Remnant, sent into slavery within great powers? Except for those who realized it, didn’t all the great powers eventually collapse? That’s right, isn’t it? The secret of God contained within disaster. Put more simply, this is the secret contained within the parable of the withered fig tree.

3) We must grasp the secret hidden behind the difficulty that has come to us personally

You think great difficulty has come upon you, but there is a secret hidden behind it.

3. To what degree must we grasp it? We must believe to the extent of lifting up a mountain and moving it into the sea

We can say, “Now I’ve become sick — why is it only me?” But there is a secret contained within that. This is not something you simply grasp lightly — you must believe to the extent of lifting up a mountain and moving it into the sea. Have you lifted up a mountain and moved it into the sea?

1) Joseph went as a slave and brought about world evangelization. This is greater than moving a mountain

Joseph went and brought about world evangelization, didn’t he? He went as a slave. This is a greater thing than moving a mountain.

2) Daniel and his three friends, who held this covenant and received an answer like moving a mountain into the sea

Daniel and his friends, who held this covenant, went and moved a mountain, didn’t they — into the sea.

3) The early church, which brought about a work like moving a mountain

The early church moved it, didn’t it? It was under subjugation — to Rome. These are the secrets.

4) To Martin Luther, who restored the gospel amid the repeated disaster in which merit and good works were emphasized in church history and the gospel alone was erased, a miracle like moving a mountain into the sea occurred

If you understand these words, you’ll see the secrets that occurred throughout church history. It has happened over and over again.

Merit. Achievement. Good works. While talking so much about these, the gospel was erased. That was the medieval church. Those of you who are Catholic — priests, nuns — may be able to listen to my sermon on this. In one word, what was it? It was the belief that you could be saved by merit. You don’t know this, but they know it. And knowing it, they still believe it. It sounds like such a wonderful teaching, doesn’t it? But can one really be saved by merit? And so the gospel disappeared. It was at that time that Martin Luther said, “Absolutely not. We are saved by the gospel alone.” This Martin Luther moved a mountain into the sea. Isn’t that so? That is how God works. You must believe this.

5) All people are sinners who have left God, and even now are being tempted by Satan and heading toward destruction — because we take this word of Scripture lightly, we cannot overcome disaster. Each time, those who grasped the tremendous secret that arises within that disaster were the ones who moved the mountain

This is a very important event of Jesus today, and it is a parable. Everything is important, but this is an especially important part. It is contained within Jesus’ final acts. How important is that? Among the works Jesus carried out while He was still on this earth at the very end, this is one of the important ones. All of you find it hard to understand Scripture, don’t you? “Because all people have left God, they are sinners.” How does the ordinary person understand that? “Even now, humanity, under Satan’s temptation, is heading toward destruction.” This is what Scripture is telling us. “Because we cannot overcome Satan, sin, and the curse, God promised us Christ.” This is what Scripture says. Because we take this lightly, we cannot overcome disaster. Each and every time, those who grasped the tremendous secret that arises within that disaster were the ones who moved the mountain — that is what I’m saying.

Those who are discouraged, do not remain discouraged. And those undergoing many difficulties, do not be shaken. Take hold of the covenant today. Pastors who have gone back and forth, become discouraged, and given up — do not give up. There are many such people. And so those of us who report many things about evangelism, when people say, “A great work has happened!” — I myself don’t find that particularly joyful. Why? Because that too will waver. The very fact that you say “Ah!” upon hearing it means you have already wavered. Isn’t that so? Isn’t that only natural? We ought to feel sorry. This isn’t something that should just happen boastfully — we ought to feel sorry about it. It’s a matter of, “How little did we come, how little did we know, that it had to come to this.” I’ve told you this before. There was an elder’s couple who used to commit theft, and things got so hard for them that a fortune-teller told them, “Go to church.” What does that mean? It’s because we haven’t been doing our part. We are the ones who ought to be speaking, but a fortune-teller ends up speaking instead, because we haven’t been doing it. Even by sending a slave, we must stop the disaster. We need to know that secret. Even by sending our children into captivity, we must stop this disaster. God views all nations as one nation. Isn’t that so? But human beings view it differently. That is why difficulty comes. Today you must look carefully at the covenant.

▣ Main

1. Through all of Israel’s past disasters, the secret has been proven up to now

Since there isn’t much time, let me summarize briefly — this is the first point.

This fig tree is a parable of Israel, and it is explaining that through all of the nation of Israel’s past disasters, the secret has been proven up to now. Simply put: “Doesn’t it seem like Israel also suffered disaster in the past?” But that is not the case. “Did not Israel also die, just as the fig tree withered and died? If you know this word, you will move a mountain.”

1) The seven Remnant members are proof — through disaster, God is changing what had been lost through deception, causing people who had fallen under the curse to miss the gospel, back again

The seven Remnant members — isn’t that proof? If you truly hold this covenant, then your being in the midst of disaster is no other secret than this. It is changing what had been lost through deception and had fallen under the curse. For those who have achieved a bit of success, the gospel might seem light to them. Isn’t it true that only when we are on the verge of death do we finally grasp hold of God and barely come to realize the gospel? People in the midst of disaster hear the gospel and immediately come alive, but for us, since we hear it so constantly, doesn’t it become a situation where we generally just hear it in passing?

I actually went and visited the place where the Maasai people of Africa live. Oh my, I had only heard about it, but everything was completely dried up. There was no water. So how do these people get water to drink? There is no water. They wander around searching for something, and if they find anything, they drink it. A third of the world’s population lives like this. I was shocked. Because of this, people cannot live past 40. They simply die. Naturally, they have no shoes. I saw the feet of the little children — their wounds were cracked and split open, with foreign matter simply stuck inside, left as it was.

And so I saw a professor at Seoul National University, Han Moo-young, and I was shocked to hear that he collects rainwater for drinking water. I told our church, don’t try to spread out into many different places — just make one at the entrance of our church. When someone asks, “What is this?” write on it: “Drinking water supplied to those dying in the one-third of the world.” We don’t know, because we just drink water freely without a thought. There ought to be people like this here and there — across nearly all of Africa, and also in other countries, unusual regions, remote places, islands that I cannot even name.

2) Those who went to a scene like death and, in the midst of disaster, changed things by holding onto this secret are found in Hebrews chapter 11

As you know, those who went to a scene nearly like death and, in the midst of disaster, changed things by holding onto this secret — that is Hebrews chapter 11. There’s no need to overcomplicate it.

3) The reason God gives us difficulty is that He is trying to turn everything that was once in disaster into the secret of God

The reason God gives you difficulty is that He is trying to change all the culture that was once caught up in disaster, so that you may enjoy blessing through the secret of God.

2. Because today’s urgent situation must be resolved, there is a secret contained within the disaster that God gives

This is the second point. Because today’s urgent situation must be resolved, there is a secret contained within the disaster that God gives — this is the second point.

1) The scribes, chief priests, Sadducees, Pharisees, the Herodians, and the many people and prophets undergoing much hardship (seven groups) — though they were a subjugated people, they were fiercely fighting to be liberated

The Jewish people — among them, the scribes. Such people existed in the Jewish nation. The chief priests, the Sadducees, the Pharisees, and along with them the Herodians, and the many suffering people and prophets. You don’t need to memorize this. I’ve mentioned seven groups. Though they were a subjugated people, these people were fighting fiercely.

2) But this was a tremendous sign that God was going to destroy Israel and begin again

God was going to destroy Israel and begin again. That was the sign. It was a tremendous sign.

3) Jesus, who told us not to fear the difficulty that comes to us — this is the beginning of God’s plan (Matthew 24:1-14)

“Do not fear the difficulty that comes to you.” Before that, Jesus had said, “No matter how great the difficulty that comes, do not be afraid. This is My beginning. The end will come after the gospel has been testified to all nations.” Jesus said this ahead of time. That means, even if war, earthquakes, and all sorts of things happen, don’t worry. It is only the beginning. The end lies elsewhere — that is what He is saying. You must hold on to this firmly. All the difficulty, disaster, and pain that has come upon you contains the secret of God. This is the evidence of Scripture.

3. Israel will in the future be scattered among many nations and be destroyed, and this is the secret of world evangelization

What’s even more important is the third point. What is the third point? The fig tree withered away.

Israel will in the future be scattered into more than twenty nations. That is ruin, but it is the secret of world evangelization. If so, what must we prepare? Those who prepare for this move mountains. It means you can move a mountain into the middle of the sea. That is a tremendous message.

1) The destruction of Jerusalem by Rome in AD 70

You already know the history, don’t you? Even now, only Israel doesn’t know it. They truly don’t understand. Historians don’t understand it. Scripture has already revealed it. Politicians don’t understand it — why it turned out that way. In AD 70, as you know, the city of Jerusalem was destroyed by Rome.

2) The Jewish people who were scattered into about twenty-three nations centered on Europe, and were killed and massacred

They were scattered, especially into about twenty-three nations centered on Europe. The killing and massacre they suffered are beyond words. There was even a case where a German soldier, sitting in a room, shot and killed a Jewish person just for target practice. That is how it was — checking to see how well the gun performed by shooting a Jewish person dead. That is how miserably it happened.

3) Through those who held this secret within that suffering, world evangelization broke out rapidly

But unbeknownst to anyone, there were people within that suffering who held this secret. And so world evangelization broke out rapidly.

▣ Conclusion_When you realize the gospel, every disaster becomes a road; when you fail to realize it, everything becomes a wound. Since every disaster and problem of those who hold the gospel contains the secret of God, you must never be deceived

Today, all of you must firmly grasp this covenant. Every disaster is a road. That is not to say it’s a good thing. When we were children, the Korean War broke out, and the whole village was turned to ruins, the whole village became beggars. For our nation, Korea, that was a road. That was a lesson for me. I saw it as a child. Children born today don’t know this, because they live so well now. Back then, you couldn’t even speak of certain things. We couldn’t afford to buy gum, so we would get it from American soldiers and chew it. That’s how it was. So then, when it came time to sleep, you’d have to spit out the gum, right? And the next day, you’d unwrap it again and chew it again. That’s how we lived. Because of this, I understand that when God gives Israel disaster like the withered fig tree, it is not simply a disaster — there is a tremendous secret in it, I’m saying.

Today all of you must go forward holding the secret of moving mountains. Do not be deceived. You must go forward holding a faith that moves mountains. What does it mean to move a mountain? It is absolutely impossible, isn’t it? And yet He is saying He will move it. Who? God is the one who does it. You must hold on to this.

In a way it may seem like misfortune, but in the midst of it — even though we worked diligently at business, our whole village was struck by fire. If only, back then, we had had banks like we do now, we could have communicated this way, but even though there were banks at that time, my father had wrapped up money in a bundle to use the next day, and put it in the wardrobe. But then the fire happened. That person simply became strange because of it. And from that point, he fell ill and passed away. All of these things were, for me, a road. And so, whatever it is — hardship, poverty, difficulty, illness — I understand it all. I saw this myself. Once I realized the gospel, that became a road. Before I realized the gospel, it was simply a wound.

1. For Joseph, who firmly held the dream of the covenant, slavery and prison were entirely a road

You must take hold of this covenant today and begin. For those who hold the gospel, every disaster and problem contains the secret of God. Never be deceived. Joseph, who firmly held the dream of the covenant — his brothers sold him and probably said, “You’re finished now.” But for Joseph, it was a road. Potiphar’s wife threw Joseph into prison and said, “You’re finished.” But for Joseph, it was a road. You must hold on to this firmly.

2. For David, though King Saul mobilized an army to kill him, because he knew this secret, it was a road for him

King Saul brought several thousand soldiers to kill David. Common sense would say David would surely die. But for David, who knew this secret, it was a road. Isn’t that so?

3. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Daniel, and Esther likewise — all of it was a road

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Daniel, and Esther — it was exactly the same for them.

4. Through Luther, who knew this secret and restored the gospel, the gospel was spread throughout the entire world

Martin Luther, knowing this secret, restored the gospel. He said, “We are saved by the gospel alone. Good works are something you naturally do — they are not a condition of salvation. You do good deeds, give relief, and serve others — but you do this naturally; it is not a condition of salvation.” At that time, it wasn’t a democracy — that church issued a death sentence against Martin Luther. And while he was being moved, someone kidnapped Luther. There’s no need to say who did it. Why? Because a tremendous secret is contained in that. Our team went to the courtroom where Martin Luther stood trial — that courtroom was actually the church. We went to see the church where the trial was held. I said, “Luther probably stood right about here.” And so this church authority said, “Luther, you are finished now. It’s over for you.” That’s what they said. But through this Luther, the gospel was spread throughout the entire world.

Do not simply hold on to this loosely — hold on to it firmly. Through your difficulties, He will work with an amazing power like lifting up a mountain and sending it into the sea. This is true. Let us pray.

Prayer. We thank You, God. Let us discover the secret contained within disaster. Let us firmly hold the covenant and move the mountain. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Praise — Down at the Cross

Confession of Faith
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy universal Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body
And life everlasting. Amen.
